Branding isn’t just your logo or a cool name, it’s the feeling people get when they interact with you or your business.
Whether you're a content creator, entrepreneur, freelancer, or side hustler, branding is no longer optional, it's a must. In the saturated world of social media and digital products, your brand is what makes people stop scrolling, pay attention, and come back to you or your brand for more.
In this blog post, I am breaking down what branding really means, especially for beginners and how you can start building a powerful personal or business brand today, including a helpful freebie.
Branding is a feeling
Branding is not just about your logos, colours, or fonts etc - it’s the emotional impression you leave on people. Think of it as the vibe or energy your content gives off. That vibe builds recognition and trust over time. It’s how people remember you.
👉 As Jeff Bezos had said, “Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” And this is true whether you’re a company or a solo creator.
Personal brand vs business brand
Your personal brand is built around you - your voice, your values, your tone, your story. It’s how people experience you across platforms or even in person. If you’re showing up as your authentic self on TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn, you’re already shaping your personal brand.
Your business brand, on the other hand, is built around a product, service, or company. It’s the visuals, mission, and messaging that shape how your business is perceived. Think: logos, taglines, values, customer experience.
✨ Good to know: Personal and business brands can (and often should) support each other. Many founders use their personal presence to build trust and visibility for their business.
Real-world examples of branding
Let’s take two examples:
-
Nike: When you see the swoosh or hear Just Do It, you instantly feel motivation. Their branding is designed to inspire action. It’s not just about sportswear - it’s about mindset.
-
Steven Bartlett: As a personal brand, Steven shows up as thoughtful, entrepreneurial, and emotionally intelligent. His content feels like him - even without the logo.
This is how branding works: it shapes perception, builds familiarity, and makes people feel connected.
Why branding matters for creators
If you're a creator, branding is your superpower.
Here’s why it matters:
-
🧠 It helps you stand out: There are millions of creators online. Your brand is what makes you recognisable and memorable.
-
🤝 It builds trust: When people “get” your brand - your vibe, your message, your style, they’re more likely to follow, engage, and buy from you.
-
🧭 It guides your content: Once you know your brand, it’s easier to create with direction. It becomes your compass for what to post and how to say it.
So... What’s your brand?
The truth is: you already have a brand. Whether or not you’ve built it intentionally, people already associate certain things with you.
Start by asking:
-
What words do people associate with me?
-
How do I want people to feel when they see my content?
-
Am I showing up consistently across platforms?
🌟 Branding is clarity. And clarity builds connection.
Final thoughts
You don’t need to have it all figured out today. But if you want to grow as a content creator or business owner, getting intentional about your brand is one of the most powerful things you can do.
